Lucknow, Jan 21 (IBNS) : In a shocker to Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, his close aide and veteran party leader Ambika Chaudhary on Saturday joined the Bahujan Samaj Party in presence of party chief Mayawati, reports said.

The dramatic announcement was made when  Mayawati was wrapping up her press conference and Choudhary walked in.

Known as a SP think-tank and adviser to Mulayam Singh, Chaudhary is a former legislator from eastern Uttar Pradesh and was also a minister till Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav sacked him a few months ago as a result of bitter internal feud that witnessed the father and the son spearheading rival camps.

"In a political party like the SP, its first responsibility should have been to protect the interests of the people of UP. But the events of the last few months have proved to me that the entire objective of what happened was something else," Chaudhary said as he accepted a bouquet from Mayawati.

Chaudhary was also very close to Shivpal Yadav,Mulayam's brother and lieutenant, who has been given a seat from his constituency by Akhilesh Yadav.
