Uttar Pradesh: Doctors place amputated foot of patient under his head as 'pillow' in Jhansi hospital
Jhansi, Mar 11 (IBNS): Ina shocking tale of insensitivity, a severed foot of a man was used as a headrest at a government-run hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Jhasi district recently, media reports said.
According to reports, doctors used the amputated foot of the man as a headrest as a pillow was not available at that moment.
The incident occurred in Jhansi Medical College which serves several districts in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh.
The entire episode was filmed and the footage later went viral.
The UP government has ordered a probe into the incident.
The government has also ordered for suspending emergency medical officer Dr Mahendra Pal Singh, senior resident Dr Alok Agarwal and sisters on duty Deepa Narang and Shashi Srivastava, media reports said.
The patient has been identified as Ghanshyam.
He was badly injured after the bus, in which he was travelling, met with an accident.
Ghanshyam was working as the helper in the school bus.
Several school children were also hurt in the incident.
He was taken to Jhansi Medical College for treatment.
His relatives alleged that doctors amputated his leg and then it was placed under his head as no pillow was available at the moment.
"When we reached the hospital, we saw his leg being used as a headrest. I repeatedly asked the doctors to intervene but they refused. Finally, after about two hours, I managed to get a pillow for him from the market and that's when the leg was removed," said Janaki Prasad, a relative, told NDTV.
