Uttar Pradesh: BJP booth president shot dead

Aligarh, Jul 1 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party booth president and trader Rajesh Varshney aka Bittu was allegedly shot dead by car-borne assailants in the Akrabad area of this district in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said on Monday.

The assailants also looted lakhs of rupees (cash) from his possession.

According to the sources, the 45-year-old BJP leader had gone for some work along with his son Saurabh and friend Pramod Varshney on Sunday night while he was returning to Kaudiyaganj town at around 2100 hrs, a car-borne miscreants shot at him and looted 2-3 lakh rupees before fleeing from the spot.
Rajesh Varshney was then rushed to the Aligarh Medical College by his family, where the doctors declared him as brought dead.

Several people have been taken into custody while the family of the BJP leader have registered a case against four people including another trader.
Further investigation was underway.
