Upset with Centre over berths, Nitish offers one seat to BJP in state cabinet expansion

Patna, June 2 (IBNS): Angry over not receiving Cabinet berths for his party members, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party's state unit.

In the Cabinet expansion on Sunday, he included eight of his Janata Dal (United) colleagues and left just one seat for BJP.

In fact, the BJP now needs to find a suitable candidate for the same.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi - who handles four departments -- tweeted, "Nitish Kumar has offered BJP to fill the vacant ministerial seat. BJP decided to fill it in future".

Nitish Kumar has been reportedly upset over the BJP's handling of allies after it secured a massive victory in the Lok Sabha elections.

BJP alone crossed the 300-mark, which is way more than the required majority mark of 272 in the Lok Sabha.

The BJP has been quite strict about the Cabinet berths for the allies which made Nitish upset over the treatment.

Nitish's JD(U) won 16 out of the 17 Lok Sabha seats it had contested, while the BJP made a victory on all 17.

"We formed an alliance for the sake of Bihar. We have no wish for symbolic shares. We told the BJP we are with you anyway," Kumar told reporters.

All allies have been given a "symbolic representation" in the government, through one seat each, irrespective of the number of seats they won.
