Agra: A Muslim man in Uttar Pradesh's Agra divorced his wife through triple talaq just two hours after marrying her, media reports said.

Mohd Asif married Dolly on Friday in a nikah ceremony at a marriage hall in Agara’s Fatehabad.

After the ceremony, the groom noticed that a car was missing from his dowry, which upset him and demanded that a car be immediately bought and produced at the spot or the bride’s parents give him Rs 5 lakh, her brother Kamran Wasi told India Today.

Asif’s family got angry and alleged that Dolly's parents had promised Asif a car apart from the other items in the dowry.

Wasi said that his two sisters Dolly and Gauri were married on the same day. While Gauri left with her bridegroom and in-laws, Dolly’s groom left without her as his demand for car could not be fulfilled at such a short notice.

An FIR was filed against Asif and six others based on a complaint filed by Kamran Wasi, said the India Today report.

Wasi demanded that all seven named in the FIR should be arrested.

Under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019, pronouncing 'talaq' thrice to divorce a woman is considered a criminal offense. The Act aims to protect the rights of Muslim women and prohibits the practice of instant triple talaq (talaq-e-biddat).
