Lucknow/IBNS: The Uttar Pradesh government has announced restrictions on gatherings of five or more people in religious places amid a surge in Covid-19 cases.

The ban will remain effective during the upcoming festivals of Navratri and Ramzan.

The decision was taken on Saturday night during a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over the coronavirus crisis in the state.

Both Navratri, the auspicious festival celebrated by Hindus, and Ramzan - the most awaited time of the year for Muslims - will begin on April 13.
