UP cold storage roof collapse: Two dead, 10 rescued

Sambhal (UP)/UNI: Two people were killed, whereas 10 others have been rescued even as several others are still feared trapped under the debris after the roof of a chamber of cold storage collapsed in the Chandausi area of Sambhal district here in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, police sources said here.

Police sources said that there is AR cold storage in the Chandausi area on the border of the Badaun district.

"On Thursday when the farmers came to keep their potatoes in the newly constructed chamber of the cold storage where labourers were working, its roof collapsed all of a sudden and several people were buried under the debris," they said.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Shalabh Mathur said that the roof of the newly constructed chamber of the cold storage building collapsed between 11 am to 11.45 am.

"So far 12 people have been taken out of the debris and unfortunately 2 died during treatment," he said.

He said that the rescue operation is going on and the NDRF is coordinating with the SDRF team.

"The exact number of people missing is around 11 to 12. Some are responding properly and we are making efforts to take them out," he said.
