Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Narendra Singh Tomar finalise Centre's stand in a meeting with Amit Shah for next round of talks with farmers
New Delhi/IBNS: Union Railway minister Piyush Goyal and Agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar met Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday, a day before the next round of talks between the Centre and the farmers agitating against the three new farm laws, said media reports.
Agriculture Minister Tomar, Railway Minister Goyal and Minister of State (MoS) Commerce and Industry Som Parkash have been representing the Central government in discussions with the farmers.
The Agriculture minister and Railway minister discussed and finalised the Centre's position for Wednesday's talks, said a media report.
On Monday, the Centre invited 40 farmer union leaders to a discussion to work out a “logical solution” to the current deadlock over the farm laws.
“The government is also committed to finding a logical solution on all relevant issues with a clear intention and an open mind,” the letter written by Agriculture Secretary Sanjay Aggarwal to the farmer unions said, according to an Indian Express report.
However, the farmers insisted that the agenda of the meeting should include discussions on working out modalities for repealing the three farm laws though the Centre has repeatedly said complete withdrawal of the laws wouldn't be possible.
Till now, there have been five rounds of talks between the Centre and farmers' unions. The last round of talks was held on December 5 while the sixth round of talks scheduled for December 9 was cancelled after a dialogue between some farmers' leaders and Home Minister Amit Shah the day before failed.
Farmers, especially from Punjab, Haryana and parts of Uttar Pradesh have been agitating for over a month on the Delhi border demanding the repeal of farm laws
