Unacceptable: India reacts as Iranian attack rocks UAE's Fujairah

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “The attack on Fujairah that resulted in injury to three Indian nationals is unacceptable. We call for the immediate cessation of hostilities and condemn the targeting of civilian infrastructure and innocent civilians.”

Reiterating its long-standing position, India emphasized the need for dialogue and diplomacy. “India continues to stand for dialogue and diplomacy to address the situation, so that peace and stability may be restored across West Asia,” the statement added.

New Delhi also underscored the importance of ensuring free and unimpeded navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law, and said it remains ready to support all efforts aimed at a peaceful resolution.

The condemnation came after three Indian nationals were injured in a drone strike that triggered a fire at a major oil facility in Fujairah on Monday. The incident marks a sharp escalation in regional tensions, breaking months of relative calm in the Gulf.

The attack reportedly targeted the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, one of the UAE’s key energy hubs. Civil defence teams rushed to the site and managed to contain the blaze before it could spread further.

According to the Fujairah Media Office, emergency responders acted swiftly, and the injured were taken to hospital for treatment. Their identities and current conditions have not yet been fully disclosed.

The incident is being described as the first major breach of calm in the UAE since a Pakistani-mediated ceasefire between Washington and Tehran came into effect on April 8.

In a parallel development, UAE defence systems reportedly intercepted three Iranian missiles over its waters, while another missile is said to have fallen into the sea.

The situation triggered heightened security across major cities, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Residents received emergency alerts on their mobile phones warning of potential missile threats and advising them to seek immediate shelter.

The alerts urged people to remain indoors, avoid windows and open areas, and follow official instructions until further notice, reflecting growing concerns over a wider regional escalation.
