Uma Bharti warns BJP over Gopal Kanda's support to form Haryana government

Chandigarh/IBNS: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader Uma Bharti has warned her outfit over taking support from Haryana Lokhit Party leader and newly-elected MLA Gopal Kanda, who is accused of leading a girl to suicide, to form the Haryana government.

In a series of tweets, Uma congratulated the BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the BJP emerged as the single largest party in Haryana but also warned the party over Kanda.

"Gopal Kanda is the person because of whom a girl had committed suicide. The girl's mother had also committed suicide for not getting justice. As the case is sub judice, Kanda is on bail, she said.

Uma further said, "The court will only decide whether Gopal Kanda is guilty or not but winning an election doesn't make him innocent. There are a lot of factors in winning an election."

"I request the BJP not to forget the morals...." she added.

As the assembly poll results were declared on Thursday, the BJP won 40 out of 90 seats while the Congress managed to win 31. The Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) has won 10 seats.

Kanda on Thursday only cleared that he will support the BJP. "I will support the BJP to pave way for Haryana's development," he said.

In 2012, air-hostess Geetika Sharma had committed suicide leaving two suicide notes which had the names of Kanda and an aide. Following the development, Kanda was arrested and he had resigned as the Haryana minister.

In the wake of the charges, he had also resigned from his then party Congress.

Several Independent MLAs have reportedly extended their support to the BJP to form the next state government.
