Ukraine Crisis: India urges for safe corridor in Sumy as Indian students say they are moving to Mariupol
Kyiv/New Delhi: As a large group of Indian students of Sumy State University declared on video that they are going to move towards Mariupol where a partial ceasefire has been declared by Russia, the Indian government on Saturday urged Russia and Ukraine for a ceasefire to create a safe corridor for them.
The students in the video also declared that if anything happens to them then the Indian government would be responsible.
Holding aloft Indian flags they said it is their last video.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi urged the students of Sumy to stay inside shelters and avoid unnecessary risks.
“We are deeply concerned about Indian students in Sumy, Ukraine. Have strongly pressed Russian and Ukrainian governments through multiple channels for an immediate ceasefire to create a safe corridor for our students.

“Have advised our students to take safety precautions, stay inside shelters and avoid unnecessary risks. Ministry and our Embassies are in regular touch with the students,” the spokesperson posted.
The appeal came as the students in Sumy put up a video saying they are going to start moving towards Maripol, which is 600 km away and where a partial ceasefire was declared by Russia to help civilians move out.
"We are afraid we have waited a lot and we are not going to wait anymore. We are risking our lives, we are moving towards the border, if anything happens to us, the Govt of India will be responsible, and the Indian Embassy. If anything happens to any one of us, Operation Ganga will be the biggest failure," one of the students said.
