Uddhav Thackeray to seek IAF's help from Centre to replenish oxygen supply in Maharashtra
Mumbai/IBNS: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said he will request the Centre to aid the supply of oxygen through Indian Air Force for the state grappling with a huge surge in coronavirus cases.
"I will speak to the Prime Minister to request him to provide us IAF assistance in the supply of oxygen for medical use from nearby states," Thackeray was quoted as saying by Mint.
Thackeray said this during a televised address to the people of the state about the coronavirus situation and measures to break the chain of infection.
Though the government is continuously working to upgrade the healthcare system, it is overwhelmed with the unprecedented coronavirus cases, he said. "There is a shortage of medical oxygen, beds and Remdesivir," he added.
The chief minister admitted that the coronavirus situation in the state is "scary"and the medical infrastructure is overburdened.
He said all the oxygen produced in the state is being used for medical purposes.
Maharashtra on Tuesday recorded 60,212 fresh COVID19 cases, taking the active number of cases to 5,93,042 while 281 people died of the infection.
During the address the chief minister announced more strict actions and imposition of Section 144 starting from 8 pm tomorrow for a period of 15 days.
