New Delhi, Oct 20 (IBNS) A Delhi court on Tuesday convicted an Uber cab driver for raping a woman passenger last year, reports said.

The Tees Hazari court which found Shiv Kumar Yadav guilty of the crime will announce the amount of punishment on October 23.

The incident took place on December 5 when the 25-year-old woman, a finance executive working in Gurgaon, was on her way back home in Inderlok in northwest Delhi.

The accused was arrested two days later from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh.

In January, the Delhi court had framed charges against Yadav under sections 366 and 323 of the Indian Penal Code for offences of endangering a woman’s life while raping her, kidnapping with an intent to compel her for marriage, criminally intimidating and causing hurt.

The incident sparked outrage across the country, forcing the Delhi government to ban the use of Uber in the national capital.
