Two ULFA-I militants lay down arms in Assam’s Tinsukia district
Guwahati/IBNS: Two militants of banned outfit United Liberation Front of Assam – Independent (ULFA-I) surrendered with arms before the security forces in Assam’s Tinsukia last evening, officials said on Friday.
The surrendered militants were identified as Luit Asom alias Bijitkant Bora and Rana Asom alias Pranjit Kotoky and they had deposited two MQ-81 AK series assault rifles, two AK series magazines and 40 rounds live ammunition.
According to the reports, based on a reliable input about movement of suspected ULFA-I militants at Wara area under Lekhapani police station in Tinsukia district, a joint team of police, 210 Cobra, 68 battalion of CRPF and Indian army had launched operation at the area.
Tinsukia district Superintendent of Police Shiladitya Chetia said that, when the security forces persuaded the militants to give up arms, two militants came up to lay down their arms.
“The two ULFA-I militants had surrendered with arms before the security forces,” the top Assam cop said.
The Assam cop said that, the militants had entered into Indian soil by crossing the Indo-Myanmar border to carry out some activities.
