Two suspected IS operatives arrested from Indo-Myanmar border town in Manipur
The duo was held at the border check post at Khudengthabi along the Trans Asian Highway No-1 on March 14 while proceeding towards Imphal from Moreh.
A top official of Manipur police said the suspected IS operatives have been identified as Nazir Mohammad and Abu Bakir -both hailing from Taml Nadu.
Altogether 14 SIM cards, Rs 75,130 in Indian currency and a huge amount of foreign currencies were recovered from them.
"During interrogation, the suspected IS operatives revealed that they had left Kolkata on March 9 and travelled through Assam and reached Dimapur railway station on March 10. Then they came to Imphal and went to the bordering town Moreh," the police official said.
They also reportedly admitted to have visited the north eastern Indian state for the second time.
Manipur police and other security agencies have started probing the real purpose of their visit to Manipur and the bordering town.
