Ramanathapuram, July 8 (UNI): Two of the four fishermen, who had gone missing on the high seas, were rescued on Monday, while a frantic search operation to trace the remaining other two fishermen by the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is under way for the fourth consecutive day.

District collector K. Veera Raghava Rao told newsmen here that Anthony (40) and Stephen (42) were found clinging on to the capsized fiberglass boat on which they set sail into the sea about 16 nautical miles off Nambuthalai coast, on Thursday.

Both of them were rescued by country boat fishermen and were taken to the coastal hamlet of Embavayal in Pudukottai district.
On reaching the shore, the haggard fishermen were admitted to the government hospital at Manalmelkudi, where their condition was stated to be stable.

The fate of two other fishermen, namely Chindas (43) and Minon (41) was not known, as they were still missing.

The search operation to trace them by ICG ships and Chetak helicopter from Indian Naval Air Station “INS Parundu” at Uchipuli in the district was continuing, he said.

The fishermen were hailing from Thangatchimadam and Pamban coastal hamlets in Rameswaram, had set sail into the sea for fishing, despite an advisory issued by the Fisheries department to the fishers to stay away from sea in view of inclement weather.
