Two KPLT militants killed in Assam gun battle

Guwahati, Nov 22 (IBNS) : Two militants of Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT) were killed and another was nabbed in a gun battle with security forces in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Saturday, police said.

According to reports, the encounter took place at Rongtaru area under Rongmongway police station in the hill district.

Following a tip off, a joint team of the police and the army had launched an operation at the remote area where the militant duo was killed during the encounter.

“When troops reached the area, the militants started to fire by targeting the security personnel and forced us to exchange bullets,” Karbi Anglong SP Mugdhajyoti Mahanta said.

Two militants were killed on spot and another was nabbed.

The security forces recovered two AK-47 rifles, one pistol, several rounds of live ammunition in possession from slain militants.

The militants have not been identified so far.

KPLT is active in Karbi Anglong and Nagaon district.
