Two BSF jawans suffer splinter injuries in Pakistan firing on LoC, Indian retaliates

Jammu/UNI: Two BSF jawans on Saturday suffered splinter injuries as Pakistan shelled forward areas along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier in the morning also, Pakistan fired unprovoked and violated the ceasefire for more than thrice in the bordering district.

Confirming the injuries, SSP Poonch, Ramesh Angral here said that Pakistan violated Ceasefire in Khari Karmara area of District Poonch in which two sepoys of BSF attached suffered splinters injuries.

The injured were identified as Constable C H Manohar and Constable Riyaz Ahmed. Both the individuals have been shifted to hospital for treatment, said the SSP.

Defence Spokesman Lt Col Devender Anand here said that at about 1830 hours, Pak initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with Small Arms and intense shelling with Mortars along LoC in Khari Karmara of District Poonch.

Meanwhile at around 1800 hours also, Pak initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation in Mendhar sector while Indian Army retaliated befittingly.

However, a forest fire broke out along the Line of Control in Balnoi area of Mankot sector in Poonch district on Saturday.

Pakistani troops also violated ceasefire overnight by unprovoked firing and mortar shelling on civilian areas along the International Border in two sectors of Jammu region.

Pakistani rangers targeted forward areas along the IB in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district and they kept firing intermittently for five hours.

The firing from Pakistani side of the IB started around 11.45 pm Friday and continued till 4.40 am Saturday, the official said, adding the Border Security Force (BSF) retaliated strongly.

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old woman, Hamida Bi, was injured in Pakistani shelling on civilian areas in Qasba sector of Poonch on Friday, the official said, adding her condition was stated to be stable.

Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Rahul Yadav on Saturday visited the District Hospital Poonch and met the injured woman.

The DC, accompanied by Tehsildar Haveli Anjum Khatak, enquired about the well being of the injured and directed doctors to provide the best possible treatment.

He provided relief assistance of Rs 5000 to the injured out of the Red Cross Fund
