Two Assam based journalists attacked by miscreants

Guwahati, April 26 (IBNS): Two Assam based journalists were allegedly attacked by miscreants in the state in past 24 hours.

According to the reports, a journalist working with a local news paper was seriously injured in miscreants attack at Mukalmua in lower Assam’s Nalbari district last night.

The journalist named Rajen Deka, employed with Assamses daily ‘Dainik Asom’ was attacked by miscreants by sharp weapons while he was returning home.

The injured journalist was immediately admitted at Nalbari civil hospital and later he was referred to Guwahati Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

On the other hand, a woman TV journalist and her husband were also attacked by a four-member miscreant group in Tinsukia district last night.

The miscreant group had attacked the lady TV journalist identified as Upasana Barua Goswami and her husband in a restaurant while they were visited the restaurant.

Following the attack, police had arrested the attackers identified Pramod Gogoi, Pragjyoti Das, Dhananjay Dutta and Dwipan Sonowal.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has directed the Assam DGP to take stern action against the culprits.

Several journalist bodies on Friday have staged protest against the attacks across the state and demanded the state government to take stern action against the attackers.

The journalist bodies have also expressed serious concern over the rise of crime against the journalist in Assam.
