Tuskers killed 195 people in Chhattisgarh in last three-year, says Forest Minister Akbar

Raipur/UNI: Chhattisgarh Forest Minister Md Akbar on Monday said that about 195 people have been killed in wild elephant attacks during the last three years in the state.

In a written reply to a question of Congress MLA Dhanendra Sahu in Legislative Assembly, Mr Akbar informed that 75 people were killed in the year 2017-18, whereas 64 people were lost their lives in the year 2018-19.

"Till the last October in 2019-20, wild elephant killed 56 people," Akbar said, adding that during this period 78 people were injured.

He said that 4450 houses were also damaged by elephants during this period.

Talking about compensation geven to the victims, the Forest Minister said, "A total of  Rs 50 crore 28 lakh have been disbursed in lieu of loss due to elephants including the loss of lives."
