'Tribals protectors of culture': Devendra Fadnavis

| @indiablooms | Feb 17, 2019, at 05:27 pm

Thane, Feb 17 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday called the tribal community as the protectors of the culture while lauding their efforts in preserving the Jal-Jamin-Jangal (water, land and forests).

He made this observation during the mass marriage ceremony of 1,101 tribal couples at Asangaon in Shahapur taluka of the district.

Speaking further, he also said that efforts were being made to avoid unnecessary differences between the tribal and non-tribal people due to the Panchayat (Extension to the Scheduled Areas) Act.

While underlining the dire need of organising many mass marriages, Fadnavis said that organisation of such marriages would reduce the burden on an individual.

The Chief Minister further said that all the formalities for supply of drinking water from the Bhavali dam to Shahapur had been done and the supply of water would start following approval from the Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority, he added.

All the pending issues of Shahapur would be resolved soon, he promised.

Thane Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde, several MPs, MLAs and MLCs were also present at the function.

Five couples who were part of the marriage were given the 'mangalsutra' and other essentials including the cooking gas connection under the Ujwala Scheme.
