Train service resumes in north Kashmir after a day

Srinagar, May 14 (UNI): Train service resumed on Tuesday morning after remaining suspended for a day due to security reasons in north Kashmir following protests against the rape of a three-year-old girl in Sumbal, Bandipora district.

However, trains ran as per schedule on Monday on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.

''We have resumed train service in north Kashmir today after a fresh advisory was received from the police last night,'' a railway official told UNI. Therefore, trains will chug on Srinagar-Badgam-Baramulla track, he said.

He said railway department is acting on the advice of the local administration who are taking decision keeping in view the safety and security of the passengers and railway property.

In the past, railway suffered damages worth crores of rupees during protests and strikes.
