Train service resumes in Kashmir after two days

Srinagar, May 26 (UNI): Train service was resumed on Sunday after remaining suspended for two days for security reasons in the Kashmir valley following an encounter by security forces in Pulwama district.

Train service resumed this morning as a fresh advisory was received from authorities last night, a senior railway official told UNI.

Trains will run on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region. Similarly, trains will also chug on Srinagar-Badgam-Baramulla in north Kashmir track, he added.

He said railway authorities are acting on the advice of local administration, particularly police, who took the decision to suspend train service after keeping in view the safety and security of the passengers and railway property.

In the past railway suffered huge damage when train, railway stations and lighting system were damaged during demonstrations.

Train service has become very popular in the valley since it was very cheap, safe and fast against other mode of transport.

Ansar Gazwatul, chief Hind Zakir Musa, was killed in an encounter by security forces in Pulwama district during over 12 hours Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) which ended early Friday.

Zakir Musa and another militant were killed in an encounter by security forces at Dadsar Tral in Pulwama.
