TMC MLA Arjun Singh joins BJP

New Delhi, Mar 14 (IBNS): Ahead of the General Elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) lawmakers continue to switch sides and the latest is Arjun Singh, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here on Thursday.

Singh, an MLA from Bhatpara constituency of West Bengal, joined the saffron outfit in presence of BJP national secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and state leader Mukul Roy.

Joining the party, Singh said: "The West Bengal Chief Minister's comment on Pulwama attack was upsetting. When India conducted airstrike, Mamata Banerjee questioned it. I felt sad for working with such a leader. It was tough for me to work for such a party."

"TMC is now all about money. We didn't fight against the Communists to witness this scenario," he added alleging that the West Bengal ruling party is involved in corruption.

Earlier, TMC MP Saumitra Khan and suspended MP from the same party, Anupam Hazra, had joined the BJP.

Regarding Singh's joining, Roy, a former TMC number two man and an ex-Railway Minister, said: "This proves that the regime of Mamata is ending. This is just a trailer while the entire film is yet to be shown."

Singh was reportedly denied an MP ticket by TMC chief Banerjee from West Bengal's Barrackpore constituency, which will be contested by sitting parliamentarian Dinesh Trivedi.

When asked about Singh's possible switch to BJP a day ago, Banerjee, however, posed unperturbed saying, "I don't care who is going. Anyone can join the BJP. Sometimes I ask them to join the BJP. It doesn't matter to me."

On Tuesday, along with Hazra, CPI-M MLA Khagen Murmu and Congress MLA Dulal Chandra Bar also joined BJP.
