Three policemen killed in separate attacks by militants in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 23 (IBNS) Heavily armed suspected militants shot dead three policemen in two separate incidents and decamped with an assault rifle in the heart of Srinagar on Monday.

Militant outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen  claimed the responsibility for the twin attacks which  took place within few hours.

While the first attack took place at Zadibal, the second one happened in the  Tengpora locality.

Confirming the second attack, a senior police official said, “Militants shot at a cop from point blank range and left him dead on spot. The  militants also decamped with his service rifle."

Earlier in the morning, a group of  militants attacked  a police party of Zadibal Police Station when it was on routine duty in the Hazratbal area . 

"In the firing  two cops, including  an  officer lost their lives,” the police official said.

The slain policemen are  ASI Nazeer Ahmad and Constable Bashir Ahmad .

"The attacks were carried out by a special squad of the outfit. Besides  killing three policemen of Special Operation Group, the militants managed to decamp with a rifle of a slain policeman,” operational spokesperson of Hizb-Ul-Mujahideen, Burhan-ud-din told local news agency CNS in Srinagar.
