'Think about Delhi, not coalition': Amit Shah slams INDIA's support for AAP

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday accused the Opposition of diverting their attention to the newly formed INDIA coalition and urged them to focus on Delhi instead.

Vehemently defending the government's bill, Shah said the Constitution has provisions that allow the Centre to make law for Delhi.

"This ordinance refers to the order of the Supreme Court, which says that the Parliament has the right to make laws on any issue related to the National Capital Territory of Delhi,” he said while addressing the Parliament.

"I appeal to parties to not support all the corruption taking place in Delhi just because you are in an alliance. Because despite the alliance, PM Modi will win the election with a full majority," Shah said, opposing the Aam Aadmi Party which rules Delhi and is now part of the INDIA coalition.

"In the year 2015, a party came to power in Delhi whose only motive was to fight, not serve. The problem is not getting right to do transfer postings, but getting control of the vigilance department to hide their corruption like building their bungalows," he said.

Speaking vociferously in support of Centre’s bill aimed at superseding a Supreme Court order regarding the control of bureaucrats in the capital city of India, Shah said India's founding fathers, including Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, C Rajagopalachari, Rajendra Prasad, and BR Ambedkar, opposed the idea of granting full statehood to Delhi.
