The budget has been a wasted opportunity: Chidambaram

New Delhi, Feb 29 (IBNS): Congress leader P Chidambaram on Monday slammed the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley as 'wasted opportunity'.

"Altogether, I am afraid, the budget has been a wasted opportunity," former Finance Minister P Chidambaram said.

He said: "In last 2 years, Govt had turned its back on rural India, the agriculture sector, and the social sector programs."

"On agriculture, I am happy that UPA schemes are being continued, but crucial signal is 'Price'. NDA reneged on its promise to give cost plus 50%," he said.

The Budget did not show any major initiative to increase productivity in crucial crops.

Jaitley on Monday presented the Union Budget 2016 focusing on rural development and farm and social sector while offering some relief to tax payers as analysts see it as a pro-poor budget with big ideas which is a challenge for the government to implement.
