Taj Mahal was built by traitors: BJP leader Sangeet Som triggers controversy

Meerut, Oct 16 (IBNS): BJP leader Sangeet Som has triggered a controversy by saying that Taj Mahal was built by 'traitors'.

Controversy was created recently when Taj Mahal was removed from a Uttar Pradesh tourism booklet.

Som even said that Taj Mahal was a 'blot on Indian culture'.

Addressing a rally here, Som said: "Many people were worried that the Taj Mahal was removed from the list of historical places in the UP tourism booklet."

"What history are we talking about? The man who built Taj Mahal imprisoned his father," Som said.

"He wanted to destroy Hindus. If this is history, then I can guarantee you that it is very unfortunate and we are going to change this history," he said.

Mughal emperor Shah Jahan had built Taj Mahal in Agra city of Uttar Pradesh.

Thousands of tourists from across the globe visit Agra to see this grand Mughal building every year.

Reacting to the comment, former Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah tweeted sarcastically: "No more Red Fort speeches on 15th August? “The PM will address the nation from Nehru Stadium” will fill some hearts with unabashed glee."
