Sushant Singh Rajput case: Centre asks Supreme Court to be heard in Rhea Chakraborty's petition

New Delhi/IBNS: The Centre has filed a petition with the Supreme Court requesting to be heard in the petition filed by actor Rhea Chakraborty challenging the case against her in Bihar in the death of her boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput, media reports said.

According to reports, the Centre may have been prompted by the ongoing tussle between Bihar and Maharashtra governments over the case.

While the Maharashtra Police is investigating if psychological depression and bitter rivalry in Bollywood led to Rajput's death, which it said was a suicide, Bihar Police is investigating his girl friend Rhea Chakraborty's involvement, following an FIR filed by the late actor's father in Patna, in which he also accused Rhea of siphoning off Rs 14 crore from his son's account.

Rhea Chakraborty, who had herself appealed for a CBI investigation in the case last month, petitioned in the Supreme Court to keep the probe on hold till the matter was subjudice.

An investigation by the CBI at this point will be "totally illegal and beyond any known legal principles, affecting the Federal Structure of the Nation," she said in a statement.

The Centre told the Supreme Court it wants to be heard in the case in the interest of justice, assuring that it will not cause prejudice to any of the parties, said an NDTV report.

Meanwhile, Bihar government today alleged that Mumbai Police is saving Rhea Chakraborty and hindering its investigation, arguing against her petition to transfer the case lodged in Patna to Mumbai.

The lawyer appearing for the Bihar government said Rhea Chakraborty has given no evidence that the Bihar Police is biased against her beyond "general and bald allegations", reported NDTV.

The Bihar government also argued that Patna Police still has jurisdiction in the case even though it is transferred to the CBI as it was filed by Rajput's father KK SIngh, who lives in Patna, added the report.

At the moment three agencies-the Mumbai Police, the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate- are probing Sushant Singh Rajput's case.

The Enforcement Directorate is investigating suspicious transactions in Rajput's account based on a complaint filed by Bihar Police. Rhea Chakraborty appeared before the probe agency, which investigates financial crimes, on Friday for interrogation in connection with the charges of money laundering.
