Supreme Court rejects DK Shivakumar's plea to quash CBI case in disproportionate assets charge

New Delhi/IBNS: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar's plea seeking the quashing of the case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the disproportionate assets case, media reports said.

A two-judge bench of the top court refused to interfere with the Karnataka High Court order.

The Supreme Court was hearing the plea filed by Shivakumar against the High Court order which turned down his petition on October 19, 2023.

The CBI has alleged Shivakumar had amassed assets disproportionate between 2013 and 2018 when he was a minister in the then Congress government.

Shivakumar has been accused of amassing assets worth Rs. 74.93 crore disproportionate to his income.

Rejecting Shivakumar's plea, the High Court had directed the central probe agency to finish the investigation and file a report within three months.

Shivakumar has denied any wrongdoing and said he would fight the case "legally".

He accused the BJP of harassing him by misusing central agencies.

The CBI filed the case against Shivakumar in October 2020 after receiving a consent from the then BJP government.

Citing the wrong procedure, the Siddaramaiah government, which is now in place, withdrew consent for investigation in November 2023.
