Supreme Court rejects Asaram Bapu's bail plea

| | Jan 30, 2017, at 06:53 pm
New Delhi, Jan 30 (IBNS) : The Supreme Court on Monday rejected self-styled godman Asaram Bapu's bail plea on medical ground, saying it is devoid of merit, reports said.

The apex court also dismissed Asaram's regular bail plea in connection with the  sexual assault case lodged in Rajasthan.

The court said the trial is being unnecessarily prolonged after attacks on prosecution witnesses.

Earlier, the Supreme Court and the Rajasthan High Court had  turned down several times  Asaram's interim  bail plea on medical ground.

The self-proclaimed godman was arrested by Jodhpur police in August, 2013 on the basis of a complaint by a teenage girl, who had accused Asaram of sexually assaulting her at his ashram.
