Supreme Court directs setting up of committee to look into restoration of 4G in J&K
New Delhi/UNI: The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre to set up a High Powered Committee (HPC) headed by Home Secretary to examine a plea that absence of 4G internet is hindering education, healthcare and business in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Union territory has been provided with 2G internet services so far.
A bench headed by Justice N V Ramana asked the committee to examine the relief sought by journalists, doctors and lawyers from J&K and explore alternative mechanism to solve the problem arising from slow internet speed in the UT.
The Apex Court said instead of passing a general order restricting internet speed across the UT, the HPC will take district-wise stock of situation and then decide whether or not to lift internet restrictions.
The Top Court struck a balance between national security and public need.
