Supreme Court declines to intervene in WB Panchayat polls
New Delhi, Apr 9 (IBNS): The Supreme Court has declined to intervene in West Bengal Panchayat poll and asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which had alleged the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) to pre-poll violence, to approach the state election commission, media reports said.
The top court said it will not reschedule the election dates.
The BJP moved the top court as they accused the ruling Trinamool of stopping the saffron party from file nominations for the polls, which is scheduled to be held in three phases next month.
The BJP and the TMC have been in the loggerheads ever since the state election commission announced the poll dates.
The polls will take place on May 1, 3 and 5. Results will come out on May 8.
The panchayat polls are considered to be crucial as it gives a hint of the outcome of the General Elections.
