Strong possible action will be taken against perpetrators: Rajnath Singh on Amritsar grenade

New Delhi, Nov 18 (IBNS): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said 'strongest possible action' will be taken against those behind the grenade attack in Punjab city of Amritsar which left at least three people killed.

Singh also spoke to Punjab CM Amarinder Singh over the issue.

"Spoke to the Chief Minister of Punjab, @capt_amarinder ji who has apprised me of the situation in the wake of grenade attack in Amritsar. Strongest possible action will be taken against the perpetrators of this crime. 2/2," Singh tweeted.

Singh condoled the death of three people in the grenade attack.

"Deeply anguished by the death of innocent people in a grenade attack at Amritsar in Punjab today. It is a reprehensible act of violence. My condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones in this attack and prayers for speedy recovery of the injured," he said.

At least three people died and several others were injured in a blast that took place at Nirankari Bhawan during a religious ceremony in Amritsar's Adhiwala village on Sunday, media report said.

Senior police officer Surinder Pal Singh Parmar told media that 10 injured have been taken to the hospital.

The incident happened during a religious ceremony of Nirankari sect at the Nirankari Bhawan, which is a prayer hall.

According to reports, two motorcycle-borne men threw some explosive near the Nirankari Bhawan.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the kin of the deceased.

The injured will also be given free treatment.

The CM also asked the home secretary to rush to the spot and supervise investigations.

Punjab was on alert following an input claiming that “ a group of six to seven JeM terrorist" are reportedly in Punjab's Ferozepur area.
