Sri Lankan PM Harini Aamarasuriya will visit India for her maiden trip to the neighbouring nation since taking charge of the office on October 16.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs website, she will discuss bilateral issues of mutual interest with Indian politicians during her three-day visit.

During the visit, Sri Lankan PM will deliver the keynote address at the ‘NDTV World Summit’ organized by NDTV and Chintan Research Foundation in Delhi.

Harini Amarasuriya, who is also the Education Minister of Sri Lanka, will visit the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi as well as NITI Aayog to explore avenues of collaboration in the domains of education and technology.

"The PM of Sri Lanka, a distinguished alumna of the Hindu College of Delhi University, will also visit her alma mater," MEA said in the statement.

In addition, she will participate in a business event to strengthen commercial linkages between the countries.

"This visit continues the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between India and Sri Lanka, advancing the deep and multi-faceted bilateral ties. It will further strengthen the bonds of friendship, reinforced by India’s ‘MAHASAGAR Vision’ and its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy," the statement said.

She is visiting months after Indian PM Narendra Modi visited Sri Lanka and met President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Colombo.

The neighbours signed several key agreements in multiple sectors, including on defence cooperation and development of Trincomalee as an energy hub, during Modi's April visit to the Island Nation.
