Specially-abled child thrashed by Guwahati cop, Assam police orders probe

Guwahati/IBNS: Amid COVID-19 lockdown, a specially-abled child was allegedly assaulted by a policeman in Guwahati.

Many people, netizens have been left angered after seeing the video which had gone viral on social media

Palash Chaliha had gone out along with his specially-abled son on Thursday evening at around 6 pm to bring some medicines.

When they were returning on motorcycle to home, a policeman who was on duty had reportedly physically assaulted the specially-abled child at Bharalumukh area in Guwahati city.

The victim minor boy’s father Palash Chaliha, who posted the video on social media, has described the incident in the video by showing the injury marks of his son.

Meanwhile, Assam police ADGP (L&O) GP Singh said action would be taken against the erring policeman and no compromise on such issues will be reached.

“Guwahati City Police Commissioner has ordered an enquiry to ascertain the causative factors and the incident itself to take further action,” GP Singh said.

He tweeted – “Reference Facebook post of Sri Palash Chaliha regarding policeman beating up Sri Chaliha’s child, who also happens to be a special child, please rest assured action would be taken against the erring policeman. No compromise on such issues.”
