Special investigation team to probe Kashmiri Pandit's murder after protests in Valley

Rahul Bhat, 36, was killed by the terrorists who had barged into the Tehsildar's office at Chadoora village last evening.

"A decision has been taken to constitute a special investigative team to probe all the aspects of the despicable terror attack. The SHO of the concerned police station has also been attached," Sinha tweeted.

The killing has triggered massive protests from the Kashmiri Pandit community against the Centre and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

"J&K administration to provide a government job to Rahul Bhat's wife in Jammu and financial assistance to the family. The government will bear educational expenses of the daughter," his second tweet read.

In a bid to control the situation earlier in the day, police fired teargas shells to disperse a group of Kashmiri Pandits who were marching towards the Srinagar airport.

The protesters were heard raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Bhat, who is the third Kashmiri Pandit to be killed in six months' time, was rushed to a hospital on Thursday where he succumbed to his injuries. He was an employee of the Tehsil office in the Budgam district's Chadoora.

Thursday's attack was the latest in a series of targeted attacks on migrant workers and local minorities that have been sweeping Kashmir over the last eight months.

The targeted killings had started in October with the victims being mostly migrants from outside Jammu and Kashmir who came in search of jobs.
