Sonowal orders for inducing 'exemplary changes' in Social Welfare Department
Guwahati, June 30 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal called for exemplary changes to oversee the planning, development and management of child care delivery services and strengthening institutional mechanism for the welfare of children, mother and differently abled groups in the State.
Speaking at a review meeting of Social Welfare Department in his office chamber in Assam Secretariat on Wednesday, Sonowal asked the officers of the department to adopt time bound and coordinated approach for the implementation of all the schemes in a transparent manner.
With an aim to strengthen the institutional mechanism to ensure nutrition of the mother and children through Anganwadi Centres, Sonowal asked the officers to publicise adequately through different medium the food items being given at the Anganwadi Centres.
Sonowal also stressed on the need for generating awareness among the public about the activities being rendered by the Anganwadi Centres.
Sonowal asked the department to work for responsive and effective implementation of integrated child development schemes in the State.
Moreover, direction has also been given to initiate modalities for creation of two directorates under the Social Welfare Department.
The first directorate will look after the interests of mother and children and the second will concentrate on the welfare of differently abled persons.
Sonowal also called upon the department to adopt a synergistic approach to concretize its action plan and ensure complete welfare of mother, children and differently abled groups in a time-bound manner.
