Sonia Gandhi happy over Congress performance in Assembly polls: Hooda

| @indiablooms | Oct 26, 2019, at 06:13 pm

New Delhi/UNI: Former Haryana Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Saturday said that the party president Sonia Gandhi appreciated the party's performance in the just concluded Haryana assembly polls.

"Sonia Gandhi said it was a good performance, she is happy", said Mr Hooda after the meeting with the Congress president in the national capital.

In a fractured verdict thrown up by the assembly elections, Congress has improved the party's tally from 15 seats in 2014 to 31 in the recent polls.

However, in the 90-member assembly, the ruling BJP has won 40 seats and has staked claim to form the government with the support of Jannayak Janata Party (JJP).

The 11 months old JJP, led by Dushyant Choutala, bagged 10 seats and sealed a pact with BJP to rule the state.

Hooda was appointed as Congress's Legislative Party Leader and chairman of campaign committee just a month before the election.

The Congress party had also appointed Kumari Selja as PCC president after removing Ashok Tanwar from the post, which had apparently caused the exit of Tanwar from the party.

However, according to the analyss, Hooda and his son and former MP Deepender Singh Hooda were able to manage a better performance in the election.
