Soldiers' blood can't become vote catching tool: Congress on surgical strikes video release

New Delhi, Jun 28 (IBNS): Attacking the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the release of surgical strikes video, the Congress on Thursday said the soldiers' blood should not be used for gaining political points, media reports said.

The Congress' reaction came after some video footage of the Sept 2016 surgical strikes were aired on several television channels on Wednesday evening.

Holding a press conference, Congress' Randeep Surjewala said: "Let the ruling dispensation remember that the blood and sacrifice of our brave soldiers cannot become a political vote garnering tool for the Modi Government and the BJP."

Accusing the BJP government of failing to reduce Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, Surjewala added, "On one hand, Modi government and the BJP indulge in seeking credit for the sacrifice of our soldiers and surgical strike, yet the government has utterly failed to provide the direction, the vision and the policy for dealing with Pakistan and checkmating Pak-sponsored terrorism.

"No wonder apathy and incapacity of the Modi government has resulted in the sacrifice of 146 soldiers, more than 1600 ceasefire violations by Pakistan and 79 terrorist attacks post September 2016."

Surjewala has been quoted by The Indian Express.

Amid mass anger in India over the Uri attack in Kashmir in 2016, India had carried out surgical strikes crossing the Line of Control (LoC) into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, targeting terrorist launchpads working from within the neighbouring country.

The strikes were launched by the Indian Army at the KG sector of Poonch district.

Two Pakistani soldiers were reportedly killed.

Pakistan had denied that there were surgical attacks calling India's claims as "fabrication of truth".
