Smriti Irani takes on Rahul in Congress stronghold Amethi
Amethi, Aug 23 (IBNS) Union Minister Smriti Irani on Sunday attacked Rahul Gandhi on his home turf in Amethi, a Congress and Gandhi family stronghold represented in Parliament by the Congress vice-president.
Irani was quoted by NDTV as saying, “The people of Amethi were expecting a railway line from Amethi to Unchahar. But three generations of the Gandhi family could not deliver it... I am happy to say that the rail line has been sanctioned for the first time by the Narendra Modi government.”
The foundation for the 67-km long Uchahar-Salon-Amethi rail line was laid by Rahul Gandhi a couple of years back, but the Rs. 380 crore project failed to materialize.
“The Rajiv Gandhi Trust wants to buy the commercial land of Samrat Cycle factory in Amethi, which was allotted to the factory on subsidised rates, however, the factory was not set up. The land should go back to the UPDSIDC (Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation)," she said while addressing the rally.
Irani’s rally came four days after Rahul Gandhi held his own in the very place and took on the Modi government on several issues ranging from void promises to corruption.
