Six Maoists gunned down in encounter in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Nov 23 (IBNS) : Six underground Maoists were gunned down in an encounter with the Cobra commandos of the CRPF and the Jharkhand police in Jharkhand's Latehar district on Wednesday morning, media reports said.

The encounter took place in a remote location  on the forested banks of the Koel river under the jurisdiction of the Chhipadohar police station after a joint patrol of the CRPF and Jharkhand police chanced upon about 25 Maoists who had gathered there.

Six bodies of the rebels in black uniform have been recovered. The bodies are yet to be identified.

“An INSAS rifle, an SLR, a carbine and three other firearms have been recovered from the encounter site, reports quoted  Latehar superintendent of police Anup Birthire as saying.

The other members of the Maoist squad managed to escape. Some of thare injured, police said.

A search operation is on to nab them

The SP said there was no casualty on the part of the security forces.
