The Phagwara police, headed by SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti, succeeded in arresting six foreign national girls on the charges of looting passersby.

The arrested accused were identified as Naeema (Tanzania), Nakibwka (Kasangati), Eliza (Tanzania), Natalia (Ugandan), and Nanyanzi (Ugandan), presently residing in different paying guest houses near law gate Miherru.

SSP Kapurthala Vatasalya Gupta confirmed on Sunday that, on a complaint lodged by Hanuman Garh (Rajasthan) resident Daljit Singh, the police raided a deserted place near the law gate and arrested these six foreign national girls involved in looting the passersby.

SP Bhatti said that the complaint told the police that he was doing his private business with few paying guest houses and was going somewhere for his work on Saturday afternoon, when one of the accused foreign national girls stopped him and sought his help, while her other five accomplices struck and asked him to hand over his belongings at the sharped weapon and threatened him; otherwise, they (the accused) would raise an alarm, alleging eye-teasing and snatching Rs. two thousand.

SHO Gaurav Dhir said that the police have recovered looted money and sharped weapons for looting passersby.

All six accused were produced before local judicial magistrate Phagwara, who sent them on judicial remand for 14 days, he said.

In another incident, a showroom of Mart-1 was reportedly burgled in an urban estate locality in Phagwara in the wee hours of Saturday.

Laghu Udhyog Bharti Phagwara president and showroom owner Pankaj Gautam told the police that after scanning CCTVs, it was found that three unidentified burglars committed the crime, and one of them entered the showroom after breaking the frame of an exhaust fan, while two others waited for him outside. Valuable goods worth thousands of rupees were found stolen.

Though Gautam has handed over the CCTV footage to the police, no case has been registered till now.
