Sitting BJP MP from Uttar Pradesh Savitri Bai Phule joins Congress

Lucknow, Mar 3 (IBNS): Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls,  sitting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha lawmaker from Bahraich Savitri Bai Phule joined the Congress on Sunday.

She joined the Congress party in the presence of party President Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the party's in charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Samajwadi Party leader Rakesh Sachan, a former lawmaker from Fatehpur,  also joined the Congress apart fro Phule.

The Congress is trying to make its presence felt in politically crucial Uttar Pradesh which is being ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The politicians joined the Congress at a time when the country is gearing up for the Lok Sabha polls.
