Seven militants of banned ULFA-I surrender in Assam with huge cache of arms
Guwahati, March 19 (IBNS): Seven hardcore militants of banned United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I) surrendered before the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Assam’s Tinsukia district on Monday, officials said on Tuesday.
The militants also deposited huge cache of arms and ammunition.
According to the reports, the ULFA-I group entered into Assam from Myanmar via Arunachal Pradesh and they were caught by police and Assam Rifles during a joint operation on Sunday.
Later, the militant group surrendered before the top police officials.
The surrendered militants were identified as Barun Asom, Saurav Asom, Utpal Asom, Basanta Asom, Ninja Asom, Majid Moran and Shekharjyoti Asom.
The militant group had deposited one AK-47 rifle with five magazines, three MQ with 11 magazines, two HK rifles with eight magazines, 11 hand grenades, huge quantity of RDX explosive and ammunition before the police officials.
A top official of Assam police said that, the ULFA-I militants have been forced to leave the Myanmar based camps after the Myanmar army has launched operations against the militant groups of the North Eastern region, who set up camps on the soil of the neighbouring country.
Recently, Indian army and Myamnar army had jointly launched operation against the Arakan army in Myanmar.
