Security forces seiz drugs worth over Rs 46 lakh in Karimganj and Jiribam

Guwahati/IBNS: Security forces had seized contraband drugs worth over Rs 46 lakh in two different operations in Assam’s Karimganj district and Manipur’s Jiribam district in past 24 hours.

According to the reports, the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel deployed at Mubarakpur Border Outpost (BOP) in Assam’s Karimganj district along Indo-Bangladesh border had recovered Brown Sugar packets and 1100 tablets from the bordering area on Thursday night.

The BSF personnel suspected that, the carriers fled from the area by leaving the contraband drugs after seeing the security personnel.

The value of the contraband drugs is estimated about Rs 6,55,500.

On the other hand, the Jiribam police in Manipur had arrested a drugs peddler and seized 140 grams of Heroin powder worth of Rs 40 lakh on Friday.

Based on intelligence input, a team of anti-drugs cell of Jiribam district police chased after a speeded Cruiser bearing registration number AS-11BC-5607 along NH-37 enroute and  had intercepted the  Cruiser taxi at near Jirighat high school.

After conducting thorough search, the police personnel had recovered 140 grams of Heroin powder containing inside 10 soap cases which kept concealed beneath of the rear seat.

Jiribam police had arrested the driver of the vehicle identified as Abidur Rahman.

Meanwhile a case under FIR no 4(2)2020 JBM PS has been registered in connection with it.
