Security forces kill two militants close to LoC in Kupwara

Srinagar/IBNS/UNI: Two militants suspected to be foreigners were killed on Tuesday, as the security forces foiled an infiltration bid in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said.

The bid was foiled by joint forces of the Army's 57 RR, Kupwara Police, and TA 160 Battalion in the Doganar Machil sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kupwara district.

This operation marks a significant achievement in the ongoing efforts to counter terrorism and ensure the safety of the region, police said.

They said that based on actionable intelligence, the Army along with Kupwara police swiftly launched a meticulously planned operation in the Machil sector.

"The joint team displayed exceptional valor, professionalism, and tactical expertise in conducting this operation, which resulted in the elimination of two unknown terrorists, who as per the intelligence reports are believed to be foreigners and linked with proscribed terror outfit HM ( Hizbul Mujahideen) who were trying to infiltrate to our side," a police spokesperson said.

The identification of the killed militants is being ascertained.

Police said arms and ammunition including two AK 47 rifles, four AK Magazines, 48 AK rounds, four grenades, and other incriminating materials were recovered from the site of the encounter.

ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar congratulated the joint team for carrying out the successful operation without any collateral damage.

"The successful neutralization of the terrorists in the Machil sector sends a strong message to those who attempt to infiltrate and disrupt peace along the LoC," ADGP said.

He said police and security forces are fully capable and resolute in defending the sovereignty of the nation and protecting its citizens.

Earlier in the last month, two militants were also killed who were trying to infiltrate.
