Security beefed up in Assam ahead of NRC publication, Assam police keep vigil on social media

Guwahati, Aug 29 (IBNS): Security has been beefed up in Assam ahead of the publication of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The final NRC will be published on August 31.

The Centre has sent 51 additional companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to Assam to maintain law and order situation.

Both the centre and state government are not ready to leave any lapse on the post-NRC publication situation in the state.

It is to be mentioned that, as many as 174 companies of CAPF are deployed in the state on NRC duty.

Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia said that, the Centre has already sent additional forces to the state.

“The state government has also directed all district Superintendent of Police and Deputy Commissioner to keep vigil the situation,” the Assam DGP said.

“All the Superintendent of Police have been instructed to keep a strict vigil on social media and take action against those who spread fake news and hate messages. We will take action as per law and appeal the people of the state to maintain peace. The centre has sent additional forces to the state and assured us that, they will send more forces if required,” the Assam DGP said.

The complete draft of NRC, containing names of 28,983,677 out of 32,991,384 applicants, was published on July 30 last year.

Around 40.07 lakh people were left out from the complete draft of NRC and nearly 36 lakh people have filed their claims for inclusion their names in the final NRC.

An Additional Draft Exclusion list of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was published on June 26 last consisting of 1,02,462 persons.
