Mohali/IBNS: A 39-year-old scientist at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) on Tuesday died after he was assaulted by his neighbour over an argument related to a parking issue in Sector 66 of Mohali, media reports said.

Abhishek Swarnkar, a native of Jharkhand, was staying at a rented place with his elderly parents in Mohali, had returned to India due to health issues.

He had undergone a kidney transplant and was on dialysis.

In their complaints, Abhishek's parents accused neighbour IT professional Monty of attacking him.

The incident, which was captured on CCTV, started at around 8:30 pm. Monty, as per Abhishek's parents, first abused the victim and then pushed him on the ground and started punching him.

A tenant in the locality claimed Monty panicked when Abhishek fell unconscious and the accused took the ailing man to hospital.

Swarnkar was declared dead upon arrival in the hospital.

The autopsy will be conducted on Thursday.

A case has been registered.  The accused is yet to be arrested.
