Satyarthi, Malala to receive Nobel awards tomorrow
Oslo, Dec 9 (IBNS): India's Kailash Satyarthi and Pakistan's Malala Yousufzai will be formally awarded the Noble price in Norwegian Oslo on Wednesday.
Satyarthi, 60, and Yousafzai, 17, will share the $1.1-million Peace Prize at Oslo.
They have reached Oslo to receive the honours.
"This prize is very important for millions of children who are denied of their rights and educations. This is a big honour for the children who are put in hostages and put on prostitution trades. Even if one single child is enslaved then then we cannot say we live in free world. Every child needs to live in a peaceful and safe world," Satyarthi said while addressing a press conference here.
"We are here to tell the children that you need to speak up for yourself...for your rights. It is time that you don't wait for someone, you have to raise your voice," said Malala.
Kailash and his organization, Bachpan Bachao Andolan, have worked to eradicate modern slavery in India. Their work has freed thousands of children from abusive labour practices, assisted in bringing human traffickers to justice, and improved awareness of the crime of human trafficking. Kailash has been a longtime partner of the State Department, which named him a Trafficking in Persons Report Hero in 2007.
Malala has become a global leader, inspiring millions of people through her advocacy for girl’s education. The brutal attack against Malala by the Taliban two years ago this month could not silence her.
